A Gift

It was bed time and Elizabeth called Nancy to bed. As per routine, Nancy slept with her head in her mother’s lap, the most peaceful and secure place for a child. Elizabeth noticed Nancy wasn’t falling asleep, she continued to pat her gently on the head.

“What an eventful day it was, mom!”

“Indeed,” replied Elizabeth. “Let’s reflect on the day, shall we?”

“Sure, let’s do that.”

They discussed what happened during the day and how things were eventually resolved.

“What did we learn from all this?” asked Elizabeth.

“That we must be mindful in every way. Talk mindfully, listen mindfully. Mistakes happen and they are okay as far as we learn from them,” said Nancy,

“And if we are willing to rectify them!” added Elizabeth.

“Yes,” said Nancy. “I just realised one more thing.”

“What’s that?” asked Elizabeth.

“That a friendship matters much more than one’s ego.”

“That is correct,” said Elizabeth and kissed Nancy on the forehead. “I’m proud of you, my girl!”

“Isn’t it amazing that the night brings so much clarity!?” said Nancy.

“The night is a gift, Nancy,” said Elizabeth. “During the day we are constantly involved with the world outside, the night gives us an opportunity to look as the one inside.”

“The world inside?” Nancy was perplexed.

“Yes, when most other life goes to sleep and the chaos of the day subsidies, it gives us a chance to  reflect,” explained Elizabeth.

“Like we just did?” asked Nancy.

“Exactly,” said Elizabeth.

“The night is a wonderful time for reflection and contemplation. When we do not have to attend to worldly matters, we can do that in peace and with concentration. Let’s do this, Nancy, from tomorrow we will do five minutes of meditation before we sleep. What say?” asked Elizabeth.

“Sure, but I don’t know much about meditation.”

“Don’t worry, I will teach you how much I know and then we will advance together,” said Elizabeth.

“Sounds good!” exclaimed Nancy.

“They say your last thoughts before you sleep should be pleasant and positive,” said Elizabeth.

“Why is that?” asked Nancy.

“Because your mind will keep repeating the same throughout the night, even as you sleep! Those will eventually be things that you are most likely to manifest in your life.”

“Is that so!?” Nancy was astonished.

“So, after our meditation we will use some positive affirmations to manifest the life we want,” said Elizabeth.

“I’m not exactly sure if that’ll work but we can try!”

“We will,” said Elizabeth. “It’s late now, go to sleep.”

“Yes,” said Nancy. “Good night, mom.”

“Good night, Nancy.”

Elizabeth switched off the lights and closed the bedroom door as she walked out.
