Daily Motivation - story 7 - Karma

There was a bright teenage boy who used to live with his parents. They lived in a building in the suburbs. He was a brilliant student and good at whatever he did with the only flaw being that he had a streak of jealousy.

He always wanted an expensive cycle which his father had not bought for him. As a result he would be envious of every other boy or girl who got a new bicycle. In his jealousy he would cause some or the other damage to the new bicycles of others, may be puncture the tyres or break the pedals. People of the building knew this and so did the mother.

His father on the other hand was a very good and friendly man. Always helping others and always considerate. One day he bought his son a new bicycle. He thought of giving it as a surprise to him. So without informing his son, he got the cycle and kept it in the building. The son on returning from college saw it and in his envious streak damaged the cycle. When he reached home his dad took him down for the surprise, but was very sad to see the state of the cycle. The boy was heartbroken as well. Nonetheless they went and got it repaired.

The next day while the cycle was parked the other kids decided it was time to teach the boy a lesson. Armed with hockey sticks and cricket bats they were about to destroy the boy's cycle when the elders who were good friends of his dad stopped them. The father was a good man and had helped others on numerous occasions, now it was their turn to reciprocate. They did exactly that and saved the boys cycle.

When the boy returned home after learning about these events, a little angry, a little discouraged, a little relieved, his mom asked him to sit as she explained. She said, "You see son how karma plays out. For being a good son and student, you were rewarded with a cycle, but forever you have caused damage to others by your actions and karma made you cause damage to yourself!! Then, when you did manage to get things right, again karma played its part and your cycle would definitely be damaged by those whose cycles you have damaged over the years but then your dad's good karma saved you. That's the story of karma. You need to keep your karma good because it's not only you but others around you who will either suffer or benefit from your karma. You good karma may benefit you, your parents, your siblings, your kids, your friends, your neighbors and basically everyone around you and bad karma may make all of them suffer for no fault of their own. Keep this lesson in mind forever son, the world needs good karma from as many people as possible."
