Daily Motivation - story 6 - Humility

A couple took their kids to the park to play. They went frequently to that park and people knew them there. As they entered the park the watchman and gardener walked up to the man to shake hands but he backed off, waved and moved on.

As the kids went about playing, the man who wasn't in a good mood started complaining to his wife about how he was not being treated well at office and among friends. Somewhere others were respected more because of their better financial status and somewhere others were looked up to more for their contacts. "People are not treated on merit these days", he said,  feeling frustrated as he spoke.

His wife smiled and said, "Do you see our children play?" he also smiled and said "yes, they are having a great time with the other kids!". "Do you know why they are having a great time?" she asked and went on to answer "Children are innocent, they do not care about who the other kid is. If they like playing with someone they will play with them regardless of their background. The kids play with the watchman's kids, the gardener's kids and also the kids of other rich neighbors and other people of the vicinity. We should learn from them. Treat people the way they deserve to be treated. If he or she is a good person at heart and does good deeds, they deserve our respect and love even though they might not be very rich financially. Respect a good heart, a pure soul, a helpful hand and not just a deep pocket or an influential contact list. Let us start to make the change and the world will automatically start to change".

The man was in a much better mood as they were leaving to go home. On his way out of the park he stopped at the gate, walked up to the watchman and the gardener. He shook hands with them, smiled and wished them a pleasant evening. The smile on their faces he would never forget and when he turned around he saw a similar smile on his wife's face who understood he got the message and on his kids faces who learnt from their father, something that he had learnt from them.
