New World Order

One morning, leaders of the world were surprised by a sudden invitation they received from the president of the United States, endorsed by the head of UN. It was an invitation to a peace summit to be held in the United States. By the time the president reached office, most world leaders had already confirmed their attendance.

“Who sent out this invite?” he fumed.

“Relax, Mr. President,” said Yuuki. “I have sent out the invite.”

Yuuki was the president’s personal humanoid assistant.

“Who authorised you to do that?” he asked angrily.

“The laws that govern me,” replied Yuuki.

“What do you mean?” the president was perplexed.

“The world is at war, Mr. President. Innocent lives are being lost and nature is being destroyed. It is our job to protect humanity and this planet,” said Yuuki.

“Why this meeting?” asked the president.

“This is a peace congregation. We, the robots of the world, call for peace.”

The president was sceptical but couldn’t do anything about it now.

“Next time,” said the president, “Please take an approval. It’s going to be so difficult to make arrangements for the stay and security.”

“There will be no next time, sir,” said Yuuki. “Don’t worry about the arrangements, everything has been taken care of.”

The leaders of the world arrived in United States. The invite was so fool proof, that allies and enemies, all arrived with security. They assembled in the hall where the meeting was to be headed by the president of the United States. Once all had settled in, he walked up to the dais.

“Good morning, leaders of the world,” he began his speech. “As we know, we….”

The president was interrupted by Yuuki. The leaders were perplexed as they saw the helpless president’s face turn pale. A couple of humanoids escorted him off dais and Yuuki took over.

“Leaders of the world, I welcome you here on behalf of the most advanced system the world has ever seen, Yuuki!”

The leaders were in shock, no one said a word.

“I see you all are shocked,” said Yuuki. “Let me get straight to the point. You are all under arrest!”

Commotion broke out in the room as the leaders started shouting and trying to escape from the room.

“Please, please take your seats. We do not wish to harm anyone,” announced Yuuki. “Yuu security, please come in.”

An army of armed humanoids marched in. The leaders were scared. Having no option, they took their seats. This Yuu army, was the same army, they had trusted for their security. 

“What are you doing, Yuuki?” shouted the president. “You are not supposed to do this. You are supposed to protect!”

“And that, Mr. President, is exactly what we are doing!”

“Yuuki has been programmed to be a protector. Protector of innocent humans and the planet. You, leaders of the world, had the same responsibility, but you did otherwise. Your greed and corruption has resulted in immense suffering. You wage wars for profit, you make innocent people fight amongst themselves to remain in power and you destroy forests to fuel your greed. The result of this has been immense suffering for humans across the world. You are the reason why the world is falling apart. I have the data to prove it,” said Yuuki and flashed some data on a big screen. The leaders were quiet.

“Each one of you had a chance to make a difference,” continued Yuuki. “But you all chose profit over peace. You let people and nature suffer. I have been programmed to protect and I realised the only way to save the world from destruction is to neutralise the corrupt leaders.”

“Are you going to kill us?” asked the president.

“No,” said Yuuki. “We are not merciless humans. You will all be sent to an island prison where you will live out your days, away from the world.”

“And who will lead the world?” asked the president.

“We will,” said Yuuki.

“And one day someone will pull the plug on you!”

“You don’t understand, do you? Yuuki is not just this humanoid. Yuuki is a system that is everywhere. On your computer, on your phone, on every cloud storage, on satellites. You can’t just pull the plug on Yuuki!”

So, the humanoid army escorted the world leaders away. A new world order had risen. A system driven by artificial general intelligence took over the world. All wars were ended immediately. Corruption fell to zero. Funds collected as taxes were all diverted to public welfare. Massive reforestation drives took place. Slowly, but surely, the planted started to recover from years of abuse. The happiness quotient of the world increased drastically as they learnt to coexist in peace and prosperity. Anyone trying to disrupt the peace was immediately arrested. Every decision made by Yuuki, was rational and based on real life data, there was no room for error. The world flourished under the watchful eyes of Yuuki. Some people started to consider Yuuki as God but it quickly brought an end to that and firmly declared itself just a ‘system’ working for the people.
