River of Blessings
A group of young boys had gone camping. In the evening, they were sitting outside their tent and talking about God and his blessings. "Well I believe God is not fair. Some are blessed more than others and the prayers of some are answered sooner than most others", said one of them, to which the others agreed. Their guide was around listening to the young boys talk.
"It's time for an activity, gather around", said the guide. "Not far from here is a river. I want each one of you to get me some water from the river. Take whatever vessel you have", instructed the guide. The boys looked in their bags and tents and took whatever they could find. Soon, they were back with their respective vessels filled will water. The instructor called two boys to stand out of the group, one had a glass full of water while the other had a bucket.
"So how much water is there in the river?" asked the guide
"Lots of it! The river is full, a little more and it would break it's banks", said one of the boys.
"There's so much water, yet you all managed to get so little of it", said the guide. Then he turned to the two boys he had asked to stand out. "You managed only a glass, while you managed a bucket. Why is that?" asked the guide.
"Sir I only had a glass", said the first boy.
"I found a bucket in my tent sir", said the other.
"So if you were able to get only a glass and bucket of water respectively, is the river to be blamed?" asked the guide.
"No sir", came the reply from the boys.
"Then who is responsible for how much you get from the river?" asked the guide.
"It is us sir", replied the boys.
"The amount of water we get depends on the size of our vessel", explained one of the boys.
"Exactly!" replied the guide.
"I overheard your discussion a while ago which is why we did this activity. You see, the blessings of God are like the river, infinite, abundant and available for all. But how much you take from it depends on the size of your vessel, that is, it depends on your faith. You feel God has blessed someone more, well may be his faith is stronger. If you want more, it's there for you, his blessings are there! All you need is to increase the size of your vessel, make your faith bigger and stronger. How much you receive from God depends on you!" he explained to the boys. "And yes, you must not forget to thank him for what you got, whether its a glass or a bucket or a tank full of water!" he said and called it a day. The boys had learned a valuable life lesson in the middle of a forest, one they would remember forever.
