Repeat Mode
I have always liked working with soft music playing in the background. It was just another day at work as I went through my files and papers and music playing from my mp3 player connected to the speakers. As I worked, the music played in the background.
After a few minutes I felt I had heard the last song more than once, but thought may be I have not realised which song is playing as I was busy working. But the song repeated again and yet again and I checked my mp3 player to find it in repeat mode, I just switched off repeat mode and continued my work.
That evening I thought about it and this struck me then, are we living our lives in repeat mode as well? Without even realising it, because we are so busy, being busy!! On thinking more about it, I realised two ways in which we live in repeat mode. First is the routine life which we live day in and day out, and secondly the experiences which we live over and over again.
Most urban folk have the most routine schedules. Days repeat, weeks repeat, months repeat and sometimes even years repeat. The same routine, working 6 days a week, resting the 7th day only to get energy to work for 6 days again! (some work 7 days as well!!). This schedule of the week repeats 4 times and we have a month, this monthly schedule repeats 12 times and we have a year. While everyone has to work to earn a living but it's necessary to insert fun elements in there. Like make it a 5 days working week, go for a weekend trek, catch a movie during the week, meet some friends for a drink, take your family out for a picnic one weekend, engage in gardening activity, join a gym the list is endless. Do what makes you happy, break the mundane routine, explore yourself, find your hidden talents and reach your true potential!!
We all have good and bad experiences in life, while we often 'forget' the good ones we remember the bad one very clearly. These events like on repeat mode keep playing again and again inside our head and it's as if we are living that experience all over again. Each time the bad experience repeats itself inside, it brings back with it the agony, the sadness associated with it, it hurts again and just drains away the positivity and energy from inside of us. We need to make a conscious attempt to forget these so called bad experience and stop living them over and over again. Learn and remember the lesson it taught, but don't let it hurt you again. Whenever fear comes to mind replace it with courage , when doubt comes replace it with faith, when the mind is chaotic replace it with silence of meditation, replace all negative with positive and all sadness with happiness. As the great Charlie Chaplin said, "I am always happy, it is the best way to find a solution to life's problems".
The past is a ghost that haunts the present. As the fears of the past grow, like a big mountain, they cast a shadow upon the present. But with courage and faith, through the shadows, rise the real heroes. They defeat these shadows and do not let the mountains of fear eclipse their present. Each one of us can be that hero, it only takes belief in God and belief in ourselves. What has fallen behind cannot be changed, but with a conscious effort today, tomorrow will definitely shine.
